It sounds like you gave yourself some solid motivation (survival), so good luck with it! I'm always hopeful that the next game will be the BIG one that will allow me to be full time, but either way, its a great hobby... err um... business to have. Before that, I had a cushy management job for a software company in Hungary (meaning it paid pretty well, *and* I lived in a cheap country). Then I decided to move to Japan and learn Japanese (not as random as it sounds, but then again, I'm a bit odd)... so I actually took out a loan and applied to some prestigious language school in hopes of getting a visa; all the while doing game dev on the side in hopes of it paying the rent. Game Dev is not paying the rent yet (about 1/4 of what I need), but I figure by the time the loan money runs out, it might.
